LA RUTA BLAVA

In December of 1936, Josep Maria de Sagarra left Marseille in the company of his wife and headed to the South Seas in search of a paradise lost. Aboard the Commisaire Rammel, they left a self-destructing Europe behind. The experience of this journey, which took them to Polynesia and the Caribbean, became the basis for his work La Ruta Blava.

The theatrical staging by Pablo Ley and Josep Galindo captures the vitality of an inexhaustible prose. They have put together a show based on a dynamic and sensorial language, which, at the same time, addresses a dark chapter that marked the course of history. The production follows in the footsteps of what the playwright and director began with Homage to Catalonia: using images that add a contemporary look to the words of the poet. The characters that accompany Sagarra on his voyage constitute a human gallery through which this historic moment is explored, as is the search for a paradise that man had already corrupted: all they find is the destruction of a myth. Opening at the Teatre Romea in Barcelona as part of the Grec'09, Barcelona Festival.
